It helps to remember that intimacy is like a living organism. It thrives when it has the right conditions, and withers when it doesn't. There is no "permanent" switch that keeps it intact forever.
Sustaining real intimacy takes ongoing attention and commitment. It also helps when you have a good "toolkit" you can turn to when you notice the spark is fading again. Because it will eventually. It's part of the natural cycle of life.
